Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure that is used to expose more of the tooth’s crown. This is often performed when a tooth appears too short, and its appearance is not ideal. The surgery can also be used to improve the fit of a dental prosthetic, such as a crown or bridge.

Crown lengthening can be a minimally invasive procedure, but it may require more extensive surgery if there is a significant amount of gum tissue or bone to be removed.

Crown lengthening may be recommended if you have:

  • A tooth that appears too short
  • Gum tissue that is covering too much of the tooth’s crown
  • A dental prosthetic that does not fit well

Recovery time varies depending on the individual, but most people experience some discomfort and swelling for a few days after surgery. After the surgery, you will need to take special care of your teeth to ensure that the area heals properly. You may need to eat soft foods for a few days and rinse your mouth with warm water after eating or drinking.
